Monique and I have been out and about with our cameras this week, photographing things with wings:

With school finished for the year, and before the mad rush to Christmas, I’ve snatched a few days away to write. I’m out of range of internet and mobile (I’ve slipped into town to publish this blog post!). I must say, I’m not missing the internet—it’s made me realise how much easier it is to concentrate without those devices that ‘ping’ and ‘ring’. The Australian bush is not without its natural distractions, of course, and my offering this week is one of its noisiest: a Carnaby’s black cockatoo. This bird and its mate were chortling outside my window yesterday, and gave me a welcome photo opportunity.

Monique’s little hoverfly was checking out a flower patch at her work. She’d taken her camera in to work but to take pictures of a grand piano. Instead, she took pictures of bugs in the garden.

Midweek Moment is a weekly photographic project in which Monique Mulligan and I team up to share our favourite photos on our websites. It’s a way of stretching ourselves creatively and a nice distraction from writing. Click here for more of our Moments.
